Our Staff

Our members come first, and our staff is committed to ensuring this by teaching music, teamwork, selflessness, and pride. We believe sharing the traditions of the drum corps activity can encourage each young member to embrace the musical performing arts while spreading the spirit of community service. Most of our staff has marched with the Corps in their past, and this ongoing lineage speaks to the heritage we strive to maintain in which we call the Crimson Kings.

Paul Chen - Co-Director
Paul marched with the Crimson Kings for four years in the guard line. He participated in numerous parades, competitions and winter guard performances. Along the way, he won several medals in Guard competitions. Between the time of being a member and the current co-director, he attended Binghamton University for economics B.A and New York University College of Dentistry for D.D.S. In 2008, he returned to the Corps as Co-Director and is dedicated to taking the Corps to new heights.

Timothy Ko - Co-Director
Tim joined the Crimson Kings fife line in 2002. After learning the fife and guard routines, he became passionate about marching percussion as he went on to college. He often came back to help as an alumni volunteer during winter and summer breaks. Eventually, he was promoted to fife instructor. Upon graduating college, he returned as a snare drummer, then drum captain, and later, co-director.

Chez Bryan Ong - Drum Instructor
Bryan joined the Corps in 1988. He marched as a drummer in the cymbal, bass, and tenor lines. He became a drum instructor in the late 90s and left in 2000. In 2008 he returned to the Crimson Kings as the drum instructor. In addition to marching with the Crimson Kings, he's been in a number of indie rock bands that have played around the greater New York area most notably with Raven Steals the Light.

Tony Mui - Drum Instructor

William Wong - Fife Instructor
William joined the Crimson Kings Fife Line in 1999. He was quickly promoted to line captain and later instructor in 2001. In addition to receiving individual awards in the Modern Fife class, he led the line in the 2002 Suffolk Nassau County Circuit Full Corps standstill earning the High Fife Line award. In the summer of 2002, he departed to begin his enlistment in the United States Marine Corps Reserve and undergraduate studies. He often returned on an availability basis as an alumni volunteer to help during events. After completing his enlistment obligation and a B.S. in Biochemistry from SUNY Stony Brook, he returned as Fife Instructor to train the next outstanding fife line.

Betty Chu - Fife Instructor
Betty has been a member of Crimson Kings since 2000. Interested in only the fife at first, she joined the fife line and focused solely on fife music. Over the years, she developed an interest trying both the drum and bugle lines. Thereafter, she remained devoted to the fife and eventually became fife instructor. Betty has competed in several fife competitions earning various medals. She looks forward to working with kids of all ages and guiding them through the music to help them realize their potential.

Vincent Veloso - Brass Instructor
An NYU Music graduate, he has studied with Ted Nash, Ralph Lalama, Vincent Herring, Steve Coleman, Jerome Callet, Kenny Werner and George Garzone. "I owe a lot of my approach to the saxophone and music to my mentor, Mr. George Garzone, Maceo Parker and another great saxophonist Mr. Kenny Garrett." Since 1995, he has been working with many of the established Latin Alternative/rock en espanol crowd, as well as many highy respected jazz musicians, swing and funk acts.
